I DO NOT LIVE IN AN INDEPENDENT AND A REPUBLIC COUNTRY

India got a taste of independence in 1947 and was declared as a republic country, but the women in India still haven't gotten the flavor of freedom, as yet. Women, here in India, are the target for many things. Killing the girl child, dumping her in a dustbin, leaving her in an orphanage; its tearing many a hearts apart. In public transport too women are the victims. We find many women working, but with a fear about being dominated by a male colleague or by her unmarried boss. The horror is always in the heart of a female, dying to stay out of everything and being individualistic.

If I have to go out after the street lights are turned on, I always have to be accompanied by a male, because the society in which I live, hasn't yet allowed the freedom for females to even go out on the streets after hours. Even in the broad daylight in public transport, women are sexually abused, even without their realization. Even if they realize, they can't raise an alarm or hit him, because you are raised just a few questions of what happened. Instead of bearing the humiliation women shut their mouths and continue to travel to reach their destination. What else can we do? Though there have been schemes to help women travel by public buses safer, they haven't really worked out, call it the lack of funds or the lack of enough vehicles to support the scheme, the idea died out in between. Stalking, blank calls, eve-teasing has been common since quite a long time with men.

A boy asks a girl her hand for matrimony, the girl denies. Result will be in the next day's headlines - "Girl killed in acid attack" or "Girl stalked to death" or "Girl stabbed 20 times". Such headlines are common. Many such incidents in several parts of the country have been observed. But no one could do anything, the guy escapes eventually. Here, I am not trying to say that its always the men's mistake for such things to happen, there might be a mistake from the female side too, but the victim is always a women. The lady is dragged into the media, humiliated and the result her future is shattered. No one will ever even approach her and help her out. Its the way the nature is. Maybe this will ever change.

Dowry is another curse to Indian society. Even if you are from a lower middle class family, eventually you have to pay a definite amount to the groom to marry him. Are we buying a guy for our self? Or are we paying the guy to support us for the rest of our life? Or are we paying the guy to act as our bodyguard so that we can freely move in the society? Which ever reason, money is eventually paid. Even if the girl is well-educated and is earning more than the guy is, she has to pay more money. There are cases where the guys deny any such kind of dowry, but the parents put their legs down, emotionally blackmail the guy and get the amount they want for their son.

I am happy that practices like Sati and Widowship have been removed. Now the widow needn't jump into pyre of her husband. A widow can remarry too. I am glad that such issues have stopped. Is a girl a pain in the ass for parents that they have to pay money and get rid of them? Is she a burden to the family she loves the most in the world? If a pregnant woman is sent for abortion then the fetus must be a female. Though the government is taking actions and certain rules, in rural areas such things are common. A parents loves his/her daughter. But his over-affection might lead to some humiliation in her life. She is bounded to her parents till a certain time and later to her husband's life. She's never given the freedom she wants. I just hope that some day the life of the girl will change and will rise without the need of a man in her life!

GO GREEN

Earth started off with micro-organisms and godzillas and dinosaurs. But, today the earth is infected with humans, humans and more humans. Number of people increasing, number of houses decreasing, number of vehicles increasing, demand's increasing, demand for plastic is increasing, number of diseases increasing, number of births increasing, number of deaths increasing, increase in the number of jobless, increase in the number of homeless, increase in the number of orphans, increase in the number of suicides, homicides and murders, increase in the number of accidents, increase in the number of marriages, increase in the number of divorcees, blah blah...In a world where there is so much of incrementation, there is only one thing that is decreasing and that is GREEN.

Oh yes!!! You do find ban plastic on plastic bags, we do find do not cut trees advertisement above two fallen trees...This is India people...All i can say is "Jaago India Jaago"...Despite repeated pleas from environmentalists above the damage to the universe due to plastic there hasn't been a decrease in the use of plastic. Plastic is everywhere in our lives. From our mobile phones to our microwave dishes to washing machines. Didn't anyone realize that the carbon in plastic could creep into our food when it is being microwaved??? Forty kilograms of plastic covers were found inside the stomach of a cow in a city at India. Forty kgs??? We get our groceries in a plastic bag, our accessories in a plastic bag, our milk in a sealed plastic cover. Our life is ruled by plastic. A hair clip is plastic. My mobile is plastic.

Leaving plastic apart, the other thing is Deforestation. Felling of trees is so common these days for widening the roads, building a temple, construction of a building... Even to place a hoarding for not to cut trees a tree has to be sacrificed. According to my estimation i guess there isn't much soil left to take in the rain water for the ground water table. There are no tree to hold the soil. The whole natural process is taking a turn. It's missing!!! A tree which gives us what we are breathing is being felled. How sad!!! Would we do that to our parents??? Would we leave them??? A tree must be treated in a similar way. The tree is the reason for us taking a deep breath. Many of us are even allergic to grass. If we spend a few moments on grass, the next moment we start sneezing. SAD!!! We can't even breathe around a natural atmosphere anymore.

Deforestation apart. Genetic food. This is clearly showing people that in a few years or even maybe months, there wouldn't be any fields left which can grow our pulses, vegetables, fruits. Maybe in a few years we cannot go to our villages where our forefathers had fields of mangoes, sweet-lime, oranges, guava...sitting beneath one of the tree with a blanket spread and plucking one of the fresh fruits. Our children would never. Maybe in another 20 yrs we would all be swallowing pills to satisfy our hunger. Is target 2020 this? With no trees, genetic food, life full of plastic, pills instead of meals...Seems scary even to think about it.

Genetic food apart. Our vehicles. Everyone these days owns a car, if not a two-wheeler. Petrol, diesel...fossil fuels...In another 30 yrs cars would be running only on gas or solar power. And after a 100 yrs no one would have even heard about petrol or diesel. It would be history. They would have a small specimen in the laboratory for the kids to see how it smells. There is no coal available around. The coal that is available in the market is the half burnt wood, which gives out loads of smoke and very less heat. Sad!!! The smoke these vehicles emit...they are so dangerously spoiling the environment. The carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide etc etc are reacting with the ozone in the stratosphere and becomes oxygen which doesn't help in protecting us from the harmful UV rays. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) are on rise being emitted from refrigerators, air conditioners, hydroplanes etc. (Check out the link in the labels that i added for more information on CFC's.)

All i would like to say is, let us take an initiative step. Stop using plastic...tell people...stop the felling of trees...tell people...reduce the use of automobiles...tell people...reduce the usage of fossil fuels...tell people...spread the awareness...SAVE THE EARTH!!! GO GREEN!!!

THE BEST DAY

Its kind of ironic. Immediately after the worst day in the beginning of the year and the starting of the week, i get to live in one of my best days. I get a call from RJ Nihara to come be a Guest RJ on her show Namastey! Hello! Aadab! on Rainbow FM 101.9. I gladly take her offer, SMS all my near and dear ones and boast about it. She asked me to come at 8.30 but i actually arrived ther 45 minutes later at 9.15. She's very polite and beautiful too and doesn't comment on my lack of time sense. Then we have a nice little chat only to realize both of us love talking. Then we go on air at exactly 10 and start getting chatty. I keep on talking (well i spoke mostly crap) and then its almost 11. It was probably on of my biggest moment in my life. Going on air while the whole hyderabad listened to you...was awesome... It feels like a dream. Nihara commented a lot about my writing and also gave me her wishes to proceed with it... Thanks to all those people who have encouraged me and wished me and have been constantly been by my side and helped me out. THANKS GUYS!!!

THE WORST DAY IN MY LIFE

4th January 2010 was probably the worst day in my life. The first week on the new year and i get the worst. I forget to switch on my cell the previous night and the alarm doesn't ring and i get up late. I fight with my dad the previous night and he doesn't talk with me when i get up. I get up late and though start early to the bus stop i don't get a single bus. I get into a bus 45 minutes later and while getting down at the stop i fall down from the bus. I walk slowly to the chairs under the chair, when my left foot hits the pavement and i again fall down on the same leg i hurt. Then i realize i have to wait for another half an hour to catch a bus to my project place. I wait and i finally catch the bus. I go there and there is nothing much to do. Sir leaves me at 3.50 and i don't get a bus back to koti till 4.30. From there i go to koti have nice chat at gokul chat, where i again fall hitting my leg to the uneven floor and hurt the same leg again. Walk a kilometer and the buy some LED's and IC's and wait for a bus to get back home. I reach home still terribly hungry, my mom doesn't give me anything. After dinner at 9, I want to go to sleep but i get interrupted by phone calls till 11. At 11 when i eye finally catches some sleep i get a SMS from 4nd saying good night. I curse myself put my phone in silent and hit my head to the pillow to atleast have some good dreams...!!!
